FLOWOOD, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a Texas man has been sentenced in Rankin County to spend 54 years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana and cocaine.

District Attorney Michael Guest says Shaun Mays was pulled over in November 2008 and police found three pounds of marijuana, nine ounces of powder cocaine and more than an ounce of crack cocaine.

Guest says Mays is from Missouri City, Texas, but told officers he was in Mississippi to attend Jackson State University.

Mays pleaded in March 2011 but never showed up for sentencing. He was arrested after a police officer pulled over a car in which he was a passenger in December 2011 and found a gun and $22,960 in cash.

Circuit Judge John Emfinger sentenced him last month to serve 54 years.
