The Internet has been bombarded by rumors Wednesday that How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel may be leaving the show after this upcoming eighth season.
In an interview with Austrian website kurier.at, Segel was reported as saying, "It's great to do some 'rated R' stuff again, because I've been playing the nice guy for quite a long time now. That's why I'm gonna quit How I Met Your Mother after the eighth season."
However, Segel's agent said it was a "misunderstanding."
"Perhaps something got lost in translation, but season nine hasn't even been addressed yet," said a representative for Segel.
Segel, who stars in the hit CBS show as Marshall Eriksen, potentially has a big film career waiting for him whenever HIMYM ends -- whether it's the eighth, ninth or even beyond. He's starred in the hit The Muppets last year and was the leading man in this year's Seven Year Engagement.
No word from show creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays on a possible ninth season.
