(WHAS11) -- A photograph posted online of two uniformed servicewomen nursing their children in public has sparked a heated debate.

The photo, sponsored by a group called Mom2Mom, was intended to raise awareness of women's rights to breastfeed in public.

But some are calling it a disgrace to the uniform.

The Air National Guard says the photos violate military rules.

"There's no issue with breast feeding or moms in the military breastfeeding at all more the issue was military members wearing their uniform supporting organizations, which we're not allowed to do,"
said Major Randy Bailey

"We're trying to show that strong women that have any kind of career...you have the right to feed your baby wherever you want to feed them," said Assistant Coordinator of Mom2Mom Trysta Chavez.

An airforce spokesman says airmen should be mindful of their dress and appearance and present a professional image at all times while in uniform.
