What started out as a bird-watching expedition ended with photographs so extraordinary, you're likely to think they've been photo-shopped – but they haven't.
Check out what a retired biology teacher captured when he pulled to the side of the road in California: a pod of humpback whales feeding about a stone's throw off shore in San Luis Obispo.
The whales, which can grow to 50 feet and weigh up to 40 tons, popped up all over the place, but never appeared to scare the boaters, kayakers or paddlers.
Keep in mind, federal safety guidelines suggest you keep at least 100 yards away from humpback whales.
