NEW ORLEANS – The King and Queen of Zulu arrived by boat at Woldenberg Park along the riverfront on Lundi Gras.
King of Zulu this year is Brent Washington and Queen of Zulu this year is his Washington’s wife, Troye Madison Washington.
“To represent a community and the organization of Zulu as king is just so electrifying. I just can’t wait,” Brent Washington said.
Troye Madison Washington said that serving as Queen of Zulu has always been a dream of hers. She said she remembers watching Zulu every year as a girl from the corner of Jackson and Willow and says that her serving as queen is reminder that “blessings are always within your reach.”
“It’s amazing,” she said. “I have watched Zulu all of my life and just to stand here and actually represent the city and knowing that my dream came true. And one of my friend’s that is with me today said all of the things that my mom put me in prepared me for this moment.”
Zulu is set to roll on Mardi Gras starting at 8 a.m.
