James Beard announced the semifinalists for the 2017 James Beard Awards in culinary excellence. As usual, several New Orleans chefs and restaurants were included.
The sandwich shop from chef Mason Hereford and his partner Lauren Holten, Turkey and the Wolf, 827 Jackson Ave., was named as a semi-finalist for Best New Restaurant.
Arnaud’s French 75 Bar and Cure were both named as semifinalists for Outstanding Bar Program.
JoAnn Clevenger of Upperline was named as a semifinalist for Best Restaurateur, Brigsten's and Galatoire's were both named as semifinalists for Outstanding Service and Bacchanal and Emeril's were named in the Outstanding Wine Program category.
Two local sous chefs, Zachary Engel with Shaya and Martha Wiggins with Sylvain, were named as semifinalists for Best Rising Star Chef.
