Nephew on the run after shooting uncle twice in stomach, police say

A man was shot twice in the stomach by his nephew around 12:15 a.m. in the 2100 block of Eads Street. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

NEW ORLEANS – Police say one man is in critical condition and a second man was wounded in separate shootings overnight in New Orleans.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, a man was shot twice in the stomach by his nephew around 12:15 a.m. in the 2100 block of Eads Street. A man told police that he got in an argument with his nephew, 30-year-old Dwayne Franklin, when he was shot twice. The man said Franklin reportedly chased him and fired other shots at close range before fleeing the scene.

The man was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Franklin is wanted on charges of attempted second-degree murder and illegal discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence. He is described as a black man, standing about 5'1" tall and weighing about 145 pounds.

Police say a second separate shooting happened in the 2800 block of Boyd Street. Initial reports show that a man was shot in the arm and side. The investigation into the second shooting is still ongoing and no additional details have been released at this time.
