NEW ORLEANS -- Two men accused of an armed carjacking in Gonzales are behind bars Saturday after a chase in New Orleans East.
Police said around 4:30 p.m., officers noticed a red Ford Mustang parked in a grassy area. When they checked the license plate, officers said they discovered the vehicle was a reportedly stolen vehicle and tried to pull the car over.
Officials said during a brief chase, 23-year-old Detwyne Williams jumped from the passenger side of the car and tried to run off. He was arrested at Ray Avenue and Dwyer Road. Police said the driver, 18-year-old Martell Williams, lost control of the car and crashed at the corner of Chef Mentuer Highway and Crowder Boulevard.
Police said Williams jumped from the car and tried to run into a nearby area, but was arrested in the 4900 block of Crowder Boulevard.
Detectives are investigating if both men are connected to other crimes in the New Orleans Area.
Both men were booked with multiple charges, including possession of stolen property and flight from an officer.
