HAMMOND,La. -- Two men are in jail after police said they tried to use a stolen truck to steal an ATM machine from a store early Thursday morning.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, around 2 a.m., a deputy patrolling noticed two men backing a truck up into an ATM. Deputy Brandon Tramell said he watched the two men trying to load the ATM into the back of truck before trying to approach them. That's when deputies said the man ran off, leaving the ATM behind, before trying to run into a wooded area.

Officials said a perimeter was setup and Alfred Cobb, 25, and Leonard Williams, 33, were arrested shortly after 8 a.m. Both men are from Ponchatoula.

Detectives said the truck used in the crime was reportedly stolen from Kenner.
