ST. CHARLES PARISH -- Residents in the Destrehan community are trying to make sense of a murder of a 25-year-old who was shot and killed around 5 p.m. Thursday evening.

"So very sad," commented Jim Chandler, Jr. "Weston was a fine young man who was a friend to all of us in our neighborhood. This is an absolute senseless tragedy! Our prayers go out for all of his family and friends."

Weston Keller, 25, was found lying on the floor of his home in the 3700 block of Tara Drive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, St. Charles Parish deputies say.

Deputies say the suspect, 68-year-old Donald Daughdrill, was also in the residence and was immediately detained. Daughdrill was eventually arrested and booked on one count of manslaughter. He is being held in the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center without bond.

EMS tried to revive Keller but were unable to do so.

According to detectives and Crime Scene Technicians, Keller and Daughdrill were arguing about money at the house when the 68-year-old pulled out a gun and fired one shot, hitting Keller.

Another witness was also present, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office said that Daughdrill and Keller both lived in the apartment and that the two are not related.

This incident is under investigation.
