Clancy’s commentary: 17th Street canal seepage

That too is a case of déjà vu.

NEW ORLEANS – Many residents in Lakeview and surrounding areas are concerned about the seepage under the 17th Street canal flood walls.

People living near the 17th Street canal in Lakeview are rightfully upset about seepage below the floodwalls that collapsed during Hurricane Katrina. For anyone living within a few miles of that floodwall, it’s a scary case of déjà vu all over again.

The Corps of Engineers designed and built the floodwalls that failed during Katrina. The same Corps says it has repaired and upgraded those floodwalls.

The Corps also says not to worry, it plans to put a clay cap over the seepage. That too is a case of déjà vu.
