NEW ORLEANS — The driver shot by an Orleans Levee District police officer Sunday near the lakefront has been taken to jail, The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reported.
Police booked Slidell resident Glendale Hampton, 26, Wednesday. He allegedly tried to run over the officer who shot him and his passenger.
Hampton's bail was set at $15,000, and records said a bail bond for his release was being processed, Wednesday afternoon.
The officer and the passenger have yet to be identified.
Responding to a complaint that "several vehicles being operated recklessly" in the area around Franklin Avenue and Lakeshore Drive, the officer found Hampton and a second man get into a parked silver Chevrolet Camaro.
The Camero matched the description of one of the cars in the complaint, court records said.
Stopping the police car in front of the Camaro, the police officer left his car and saw the car Hampton was driving coming toward him, New Orleans Police Department said in court records.
The police officer fired four times into the car, believing Hampton was trying to drive into him. Hampton was shot in the left shoulder, the passenger was shot in the left side.
