NEW ORLEANS -- An elderly man is recovering from smoke inhalation after a fire in Gentilly Terrance Sunday morning.

According to the New Orleans Fire Department, a home in the 5500 block of Cameron Boulevard caught fire around 10 a.m.

Firefighters said when they arrived, flames could be seen coming from the front of the house. When the home was searched, firefighters said they found an elderly man unresponsive on the floor due, suffering from smoke inhalation. NOFD said the man was treated with oxygen on the scene until an ambulance brought him to an area hospital.

One firefighter was also treated at the scene after complaining of blurred vision and weakness, but officials said he remained on duty.

NOFD said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
