NEW ORLEANS -- Hogs for the Cause volunteers are hoping for good weather this year, but are prepared for the worst.
In the past, Hogs for the Cause, which raises money for pediatric brain cancer outreach services, has seen its fair share of rain, but they hope a new venue will make the experience more enjoyable.
"We kind of feel, I don't want to jinx myself, but we feel a little bit ahead of the game with today's weather, the field is handling it beautifully,” co-founder Rene Louapre said.
After years of battling fields that didn't handle the rainy conditions as well, the fundraiser moved from city park to the lakefront arena.
"This really allows us to keep the public area of the fields cleaner and not mucked up,” Louapre said. “There's tons of grass with shell under it, it's draining really well."
UNO is thrilled to host.
"When we actually heard it was coming, I couldn't be more pleased,” Lake Front Arena General Manager Marco Perez said. “It's such a great festival, it's such a great family atmosphere and what a great way to come to the University of new Orleans than have that festival here."
For those with bad experiences in the past, Perez says to give the new venue a chance.
"It's bigger, it's more spacious, it's set right here along the lake front with this beautiful structure as a backdrop,” Perez said. “I think they're going to love Hogs for the Cause 2017."
So get ready for some BBQ and some charity work all in one.
"Bring your appetite, bring your fork, maybe bring a chair or two to relax and spend a couple days with us and help some families,” Louapre said.
