METAIRIE, La. – One man is dead after a crash that closed both sides of Airline Highway Monday morning.
State Troopers said around 11 a.m., 88-year-old Theodore Miestchovich was driving a Buick Century on North Cumberland Street. When the Destrehan native got onto Airline Highway, he was hit by a 2006 Monte Carlo driven by 28-year-old Landry Everson.
Upon impact, the Buick spun around toward the right side of Airline Highway and hit two parked cars. Then the car went over the median and across the south bound lanes of the highway.
Troopers said Miestchovich was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene of the crash. Everson and his passenger, 20-year-old Davianna Stokes, were not wearing seat belts and were brought to an area hospital with moderate injuries.
State police said impairment is not suspected to be a cause of the crash. Toxicology test will be done on Miestchovich pending an autopsy and Everson submitted to a blood test conducted by LSP Crime Lab.
The crash is still under investigation.
