KENNER - A Metairie man has been arrested and booked after police say he intentionally ran over a man with his car following an altercation early Monday morning outside of a bar on Williams Blvd. in Kenner.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. outside of the El Noa Noa restaurant and bar in the 3600 block of Wiliams Blvd.
The victim is listed as stable at University Hospital with a broken leg, broken ribs and lacerations to his face and head.
According to police, Jose Mejia-Juarez, was arguing with the 46-year-old victim when he pushed the man to the ground and punched him several times with his fist. Police said the victim further angered Mejia-Juarez when he tried to take a photo of his license plate.
Police said Mejia-Juarez first tried to back over the victim, who was able to avoid the vehicle. Then, Mejia-Juarez accelerated forward and struck the victim, causing the serious injuries.
Mejia-Juarez was arrested when he returned to the scene and admitted to police that he struck the victim.
Police said Mejia-Juarez remains in custody and the question of his immigration status is uncertain. He is from Honduras.
