GRETNA, La. -- A jury deliberated into the wee hours of the morning Saturday, convicting a Waggaman man in the death of his own son.
According to the New Orleans Advocate, Furnell Daniel, Sr is facing up to 40 years in prison after a judge handed down a manslaughter conviction at 1:38 a.m.
The jury reportedly took six hours to decide Daniel was guilty in the death of his 14-year-old son in Feb. 2016, whom Daniel beat over bad grades.
Prosecutors said Daniel beat the teen with a wooden crossbar taken from a baby's crib, fracturing the boy's kneecap, patella, wrist, hand and skull. An ambulance wasn't called until the next day after the teen had stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest, The Advocate reported.
