THIBODAUX, La. -- A 17-year-old high school student was arrested after allegedly planning to bring a shotgun to school and kill specific students at Thibodaux High School .

According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, students came forward to school administrators to tell them that the 17-year-old male student made a list of students he planned to kill and that he made direct threats to some students.

According to the sheriff's office, detectives made contact with the unidentified student and questioned him about the case. He then admitted to creating the list during the previous school year, but said he disposed of it. He also told them about his plan to bring a shotgun to school and kill those students on the list, according to police.

Police say the student is undergoing a mental health evaluation. Charges of terrorizing and simple assault are pending.

Detectives have obtained search warrants in reference to the case, but have not executed them yet, according to the sheriff's office.

“We are thankful for those who bravely came forward to report this situation,” said Sheriff Craig Webre. “Whether you see a threat yourself, or hear about it through a third party, remember that by reporting such suspicious behavior, you may not only be saving your own life, but the lives of so many others.”
