Man arrested after sexual batteries reported near Tulane campus

Shorts was turned over to the NOPD Sex Crimes Unit where he was booked into the Orleans Parish Jail on sexual battery charges.

NEW ORLEANS – A man has been arrested after several sexual batteries occurred near the Tulane University Uptown campus.

Authorities say in two separate cases on Thursday morning, women were walking along Broadway (between the 1000 and 1200 block of Broadway) when a man riding a bike grabbed their buttocks and pedaled away.

Another incident near Willow and Pine streets occurred while a woman was out for a jog. According to a university crime alert, the man asked if he could “ride along” on his bike and then left when the woman told him no. The man returned on the bike, grabbed her buttocks and fled.

Tulane University Police Department officers began conducting targeted patrols of the area in an effort to find the man. Around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday officers identified a person matching the description provided by the victims.

According to an NOPD spokesman, the man arrested has been identified as 44-year-old Kendrick Shorts.

Shorts was turned over from TUPD to the NOPD Sex Crimes Unit where he was booked into the Orleans Parish Jail on sexual battery charges.
