HANCOCK COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI -- A father and son have been arrested in the death of a man whose body was found wrapped inside a carpet and dumped along an interstate ramp.
Terry Smith, 70, and his son, Carl Smith, 46, gave statements to authorities in which they said an argument happened before Philip Whitaker was shot, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan said. Investigators say Whitaker was visiting the pair at their home.
Grannan said investigators also found Whitaker’s missing vehicle after they met with the men.
Whitaker’s body was found on the Michoud Boulevard exit ramp Nov. 15. The suspects reportedly told investigators Whitaker was killed in Mississippi.
Whitaker was last seen Nov. 8 when he said he was going to a pharmacy.
