ST. TAMMANY PARISH -- At least ten people, including inmate trustees, are under arrest after they allegedly brought drugs and contraband into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
Officials announced the arrests Wednesday, detailing how detectives think a ring of inmates, trustees, and numerous significant others brought marijuana, Xanax, methamphetamine and other drugs into the jail.
Deputies said inmate Justin Olivieri, 26, led a narcotics ring in the jail. Officials said the drugs and other contraband were being dropped at various locations outside of the jail, where inmate trustees could locate and smuggle them back into the building.
Officials said Olivieri's girlfriend, Melanie Barletto, delivered most of the contraband.
Two other couples were arrested as part of the investigation.
Authorities said Erin Dutton, girlfriend of inmate trustee Christopher Conway, was arrested as she was on her way to reportedly make a delivery to the jail.
Inmate trustee John Bigner and his wife, Lauren Bigner, were booked with drug conspiracy charges.
Six inmates trustees also booked on various drug charges were: Conway, Bigner, Casey Collins, Joseph Austin, and Blayne O'Neal.
