AMITE – The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is working to identify the discovery of human remains that were found in a wooded area in Amite on Monday morning.
The remains were found by a rabbit hunter near East Factory Street around 10 a.m.
The skeletal remains have not been identified at this time and the manner of death is under investigation. The sheriff’s office says that the preliminary investigation suggests that the remains are of a middle-aged man.
The remains have been sent to the FACES lab for proper analysis and identification.
The Amite City Police Department, the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office and the LSU F.A.C.E.S are assisting in the investigation.
