COVINGTON, La. (AP) - A top lieutenant for a Louisiana parish president has resigned during a tumultuous time for the parish government.
St. Tammany Parish President Pat Brister told news outlets Tuesday that Trilby Lenfant resigned as deputy chief administrative officer of the parish government Monday.
Lenfant's resignation, which was effective immediately, comes at a time when the parish government is trying to cut costs. Voters have rejected a pair of sales tax renewals to fund operations of the parish courthouse and jail for a third time. The taxes annually pulled in $22 million for the operations.
The parish government has also announced imminent layoffs. Brister said Lenfant would have received new duties under the restructuring. Brister said a decision hasn't yet been made whether to fill the new job Lenfant was to perform.
