NEW ORLEANS - Rescue crews recovered the body of a boater reported missing in Lake Pontchartrain Tuesday.
"The body of Lawrence Guimont III, 57, of New Orleans, was found about 7 a.m. near where his capsized vessel was found the previous day under the Hwy. 11 Bridge in Orleans Parish," Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said.
LDWF agents and the Coast Guard were alerted of a capsized vessel under the bridge Tuesday morning. Agents were able to recover the vessel, the attached trolling motor, personal items and an ice chest with at least one fish inside.
Investigators were able to link Guimont to the vessel and a truck located at a nearby boat launch. Crews searched through the night before finding the body Wednesday morning.
"It is unknown at this timewhat caused the vessel to capsize," LDWF said. "Guimont was found without wearing a personal flotation device and his body was turned over to the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death."
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story said that Guimont was found with a personal flotation device. It has been updated to correct that he did not have a life vest.
