NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans City Council shot down a proposal to cap the number of strip clubs on Bourbon Street.
According to The New Orleans Advocate, the divided council voted 3-4 against the cap after more than two years of study on how to best regulate the clubs.
Multiple dancers spoke before the vote, calling the regulation a threat to their livelihoods. Those dancers also spoke out against the police raids conducted on strip clubs earlier this year, calling the raids and cap a concerted effort to put the strip clubs out of business.
Council members Jared Brosset, James Gray, Nadine Ramsey and Jason Williams all voted against the cap.
