NEW ORLEANS -- Interstate 10 was closed briefly after a man was shot in eastern New Orleans.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, around 11:00 p.m., the victim, a 24-year-old man, was cleaning up trash along the Chef Menteur off-ramp, while wearing a bright neon yellow safety vest. Police said the victim told them he saw a blue Jeep Liberty, in the right lane of the interstate approach him.
The victim then told police he saw a man in the backseat of the Jeep, armed with a black pistol. As the Jeep passed him, he said the passenger fired about six shots in his direction, police said.
Police added the Jeep has an unknown Mississippi license plate, and is missing its spare tire, which should be on the rear door of the SUV.
The highway was closed for about 20 minutes and then reopened to traffic.
