NEW ORLEANS – The smoke could be seen for miles after a pile of tires caught fire in New Orleans East Wednesday afternoon.
According to witnesses on the scene, the fire broke out just before 4 p.m. in a private, vacant lot. The supervisor of a nearby gas station told us that people dump tires and trash in that lot almost every day.
As of 5 p.m., the fire had been extinguished. It was contained in that lot and did not spread to nearby buildings.
The fire's cause is still under investigation.
This is a developing story, Eyewitness News is on the scene and will continue to update this story as more information is available.
