NEW ORLEANS -- NOPD placed a recruit on emergency suspension after he was arrested for Domestic Abuse Battery.

According to police, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Deputies arrested 29-year-old NOPD recruit Justin Hammonds in River Ridge Sunday morning.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office officials said Hammonds' 28-year-old wife told them her husband was angry and hit her several times in their apartment. Authorities said it appears Hammonds climbed out of the apartment window, but returned shortly after.

Hammonds was booked with domestic abuse battery.

The NOPD's Public Integrity Bureau immediately placed Hammonds on emergency suspension following the arrest, according to NOPD.

The Public Integrity Bureau is in charge of the on-going disciplinary investigation.
