NEW ORLEANS - Weather officials say there are no tsunami warnings for the Gulf Coast after a third-party app sent out warnings in error Tuesday morning.

Accuweather users across the country shared screenshots of tsunami warnings for their area until 8:28 a.m. Central Time. The notification listed the source of the warning as the U.S. National Weather Service.

The alert did not indicate that it was a test unless it was opened, leaving people confused.

The company issued a statement at 7:54 a.m. Central Time that the warning was a test and there are no tsunami warnings in effect for the east coast of the United States.

The National Weather Service Office in Slidell, Louisiana confirmed that there are no tsunami warnings in effect for the Gulf Coast.

“If you received a tsunami warning from a 3rd party app this morning, it was an error,” NWS New Orleans tweeted.
