NEW ORLEANS - The body of an as-yet-unidentified woman was found in a lagoon at Audubon Park Monday morning by some of the joggers and walkers who populate the area.
The NOPD announced the discovery around 9:45 a.m.
Police are on the scene looking for information and possible clues. The death so far is listed as 'unclassified.'
Audubon Park officials said that parts of the part will be closed for the investigation, though they did not elaborate on which locations would be closed.
Those who use the park for recreation and exercise said they were in shock. A crowd gathered at the site.
"It's sad," said one onlooker. "You see this and it kind of jolts you back to reality of some of the issues we have in the city."
