NEW ORLEANS – A 15-year-old was arrested on Monday after a man was attacked by a group on bicycles in the French Quarter in January.

According to NOPD, the incident occurred in the 700 block of Barracks Street on January 26 around 10:20 p.m. A man told police that he was in the area when a group of juveniles on bicycles surrounded him.

The man said he was then struck in the back of the head and fell to the ground. The group then circled him and repeatedly punched and kicked him. During the attack, one of the juveniles allegedly took the man’s cell phone before the group fled.

Police say detectives were able to positively identify the 15-year-old who took the man’s cell phone. On Monday, the teen was located at a school in the 2200 block of Dumaine Street where he was arrested.

He has been booked into the Orleans Parish Youth Studies Center for second degree robbery, police say.
