KENNER – A two-alarm fire at the Sugar Mill West Apartments on Sunday afternoon damaged more than 20 apartments, the Kenner Fire Department says.
The fire department received the call around 5:20 p.m. When firefighters arrived they saw smoke coming from the third story of the apartment building, located in the 4500 block of Williams Boulevard.
The second alarm occurred around 5:30 p.m. and firefighters extinguished the fire by around 5:45 p.m., the fire department says.
According to the fire department 24 apartment units were damaged and are currently not habitable.
The fire department says the cause of the fire possibly started in one of the apartment's kitchens. No one was injured and the Red Cross is assisting those who were impacted by the fire.
