KENNER – Embattled Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni was in attendance but not speaking at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual State of the Parish luncheon, a first for a parish leader at the event.
The Chamber and Yenni mutually agreed that he would not speak. Yenni is the subject of a recall petition following a recent ‘sexting’ scandal, exposed by a WWL-TV investigative report, in which Yenni admitted to sending inappropriate texts to a high school student.
Keith Connelly, the parish’s chief operating officer, gave the presentation instead.
Despite the recall effort, Yenni has pledged not to step down.
The Chamber of Commerce is one of the organizations that has called for Yenni to resign, but asked if he would feel strange being at the event, he quickly said he would not.
Yenni also said that he had be planning all along to “do something different and change up the format”
of the event.
