Do two glasses of win suddenly feel like 10 to you? The size of the glass could be to blame.

The British Medical Journal released a study showing that the size of the average wine glass in England has increased seven times since the 1700s. Three hundred years is a long time, but the sharpest increase came between 1990 and 2017.

Wine glass capacity in England has increased from a mean of 66 mL in 1700 to 449 mL in 2017. That's about 2.2 oz to 15 oz.

Wine glasses aren't actually meant to be filled to the brim, but as the British Medical Journal points out "larger wine glasses can also increase the pleasure from drinking wine, which may in turn increase the desire to drink more."
