For sportsmen not ready to break out the fishing rods and clean and pack away their firearms until the March 25 opening of the wild turkey season, there is a special season to be aware of.

It is called the Conservation Order and is designed to reduce the overpopulation of snow, blue and Ross’ geese and allows waterfowl hunters to take as many as they can through relaxed regulations that include using electronic calls, unplugged shotguns and extended shooting hours to one half hour after sunset.

The goose conservation order is open in both north and south Louisiana zones through March 12.
