BATON ROUGE -- In Louisiana, the tailgating is just as important as the football itself. For that and several other reasons, Sports Illustrated named LSU's tailgates as the best in the nation.

Sports Illustrated writer Andy Staples checked out LSU's tailgating scene on Oct. 14, before the Tigers beat Auburn, and was blown away by the people, food and drinks.

"At LSU, home of the tailgating national champions, the Suspects blend into a purple-and-gold party that starts Friday night and ends long after the sun has found its home in the western sky on Saturday night," Staples writes.

He also gives a shout out to Michigan and Ole Miss in the article, but calls their tailgates "decent" and "quaint" by comparison.

"Nothing compares to LSU," Staples said.
