Traveling this holiday season? You will want to keep these tips in mind.

NEW ORLEANS – We are just days away from one of the busiest travel days of the year, and millions of people are expected to hit the skies and roads to celebrate the holidays with their families.

AAA projects that 8 million people in the Gulf Coast region alone will be on the road for the holidays. Another 45,000 people in our region will also take flights for Thanksgiving festivities.

With that being said, travelers should expected roads and airports to be packed. AAA says it expects to rescue 360,000 Americans stuck on the side of the road this Thanksgiving If you are planning on traveling, here are some tips to keep in mind before you set off on your trip:

Holiday traveling tips:

  • Before you leave, get your car serviced by a trusted mechanic.
  • Get your tires checked, oil changed, battery tested to prevent your car from breaking down on the road.
  • Keep your phone charged, just in case you need to make an emergency call.
  • If you are flying, give yourself extra time to get to the airport and through security.
  • Stay ahead of delays and before heading to the airport, check with your airline to make sure there have not been any drastic changes.
  • Try to pack less and use carry-on luggage to cut down on costs.
  • Keep your mobile devices like cell phones and IPads charged in case of longer layovers.
