Afternoon Session
SS Roman Harper walked off the field holding his right arm, but returned and looked none the worse.

P Thomas Morstead once again held for the first three kicks and QB Chase Daniel held for the second set of three.

The team went through lots of run offense during the first team session.

Pass Skele

  • QB Drew Brees rifled a ball to TE Jeremy Shockey in between two defenders on the first play. One of the nicest passes of camp thus far.
  • Brees then hit WR Lance Moore for five yards and WR Courtney Roby for a 12-15 yard gain.
  • Brees had WR Marques Colston open on a deep route down the seam but Colston dropped the pass.
  • The only play that was of note with QB Chase Daniel at the helm was a pass to TE Jimmy Graham, who made a wonderful catch with LB Sam Maxwell draped on him.
  • And for QB Sean Canfield, it hasn't gotten any better through four practices. During skele, he telegraphed a pass that CB Leigh Torrence read perfectly and nearly picked off.

Team

  • Again, not much of note in this session, especially with no pads on. QB Chase Daniel had a poor outing, nearly getting intercepted by LB JoLonn Dunbar.
  •  LB Sam Maxwell then broke up a crossing pattern over the middle from QB Drew Brees to TE David Thomas.

In the  Ring

LG Carl Nicks and DE Bobby McCray scuffled briefly during the walk through portion of practice. Aftewards, Nicks, who usually is comedic and lighthearted, seemed very apologetic about the no-punch-landed brouhaha.

"You could tell it was coming, but at the end of the day, it's just a competitive (group), lot of testosterone, a lot of people don't like to lose and a lot big prides and egos," Nicks said. "That's pretty much what it was."

Morning Session
Three practices down, two to go as the reigning Super Bowl champs hit the midway point of their offseason minicamp at their Airline Drive facility.

FS Malcolm Jenkins missed the morning practice with a swollen knee after banging it with a teammate's on Friday afternoon.

During walkthrough, Troy Evans lined up at strongside linebacker and Usama Young took first-team snaps at free safety. Marvin Mitchell set up at inside linebacker and Anthony Hargrove set up shop at defensive end as the Saints installed a base 3-4 alignment.

FB Zak Keasey was not seen at the practice session. RB Pierre Thomas and LT Jammal Brown again skipped out.

RT Jon Stinchcomb (sports hernia) and FB Heath Evans (knee) were both limited, but went through parts of individual and team drills.

WR Devery Henderson (sports hernia) and WR Robert Meachem (toe) were both limited while LB Clint Ingram (knee) and FS Darren Sharper (knee) both sat out while rehabbing.

Saturday morning was the first time fans got a chance to see this year's version of the Saints. Sunday morning's 10:15 practice is open to the public weather-permitting.

1-on-1 Passing

  • QB Drew Brees hit WR Marques Colston in front of a diving CB Jabari Greer for a nice completion.
  • Greer eventually went against Colston again and again Colston got the better. This time, Greer jumped the hitch route, but QB Chase Daniel put the pass up high and Colston caught the pass over Greer's back. The play culled ooh's and ah's from the crowd.
  • CB Patrick Robinson, the Saints' first-round pick, almost made a nice play on WR Rod Harper, but couldn't finish the play. Harper, however, bobbled the pass before he caught it.
  • Robinson was then up against a tryout wide receiver, but neither were impressive as the pass fell incomplete.

Team

Not much to go off on this one, but a few plays stood out.

  • CB Jabari Greer finally got the better of WR Marques Colston, batting down a pass over the middle from QB Drew Brees.
  • Brees hit TE Jimmy Graham over the middle as LB Troy Evans was in coverage. The rookie tight end then turned on the afterburners, darting into the end zone.
  • In the best pass of the day, Brees hit WR Lance Moore over the shoulder with Greer in coverage. The ball was put to Moore's outside shoulder and towards the sideline where only Moore could catch the pass.
  • FS Usama Young nearly decapitated RB Reggie Bush on the last play of practice, clotheslining the richest player on the team. Bush, to his credit, got up and finished the play as fans cheered him on.

Observations

CB Jabari Greer had a tough day, but then again, he's not one I'm wont to question ever. He'll be fine.

QB Chase Daniel had a good Friday. Saturday morning? Not so much. Several underthrows. Several overthrows. And several passes batted down at the line.

TE Jimmy Graham just looks the part. He'll do well as a professional footabll player. Good size. Good hands.

It's hard to tell without pads on, but LB Stanley Arnoux and S Chip Vaughn haven't stood out. That's neither bad nor is it good.

Crowd Quoting

"You gotta hit Brett Favre!" -- a fan screaming to DE Will Smith while the team went through stretching exercises. Favre was nowhere to be found.

"Happy Birthday!" -- a serenade by the fans for Marques Colston, who turned 27 on Saturday.

"Last call!" -- the man selling beer at the facility. Only problem? It wasn't last call by a long shot, unless last call lasts an hour.
