METAIRIE, La. — A day after being limited in practice, running back Chris Ivory was held out of Thursday’s session with lingering hamstring issues.
He was joined on the sideline by specialist Courtney Roby (head), tight end David Thomas (knee) and defensive tackle Anthony Hargrove (knee).
But Ivory being out wasn’t a surprise as Head Coach Sean Payton said the running back received an injection to help with the hamstring injury.
“Generally the next 24 hours you stay inactive and then we’ll see he is tomorrow,” Payton said.
The PRP injection, which stands for platelet rich plasma, is used to promote healing.
“I’m not really sure what it means, but I know what happens, the process,” Ivory said. “They take blood out of your veins and they spin it in a machine and your red blood cells I believe drop to the bottom. … It’s supposed to speed up the heeling process.”
Ivory said it’s not the first PRP injection he has had this season and he’s optimistic it will do the trick it getting him ready for Sunday’s game at Baltimore.
Still, he said if he feels the slightest bit of pain, he’ll hold himself out because he doesn’t want to make a one week injury turn into a month-long ordeal just ahead of the playoffs.
“I’m not really sure how things will work out,” Ivory said. “But if I feel like I’m not ready, I’m not going to go. I don’t want any setbacks.”
Meanwhile, cornerback Tracy Porter (shoulder) and offensive tackle Zach Strief (knee) were once again full. They were joined by safety Malcolm Jenkins (ribs) and tight end Jeremy Shockey (groin), who were both limited a day earlier.
Nose guard Remi Ayodele (ankle), who did not participate Wednesday, was limited Thursday, as were linebacker Jonathan Vilma (quad) and left tackle Jermon Bushrod (ankle).
