Really, was this even arguable? Simply put, no Drew Brees, no Super Bowl. No Drew Brees, no No. 1 offense the past two seasons. No Drew Brees, no, well, you get the point.
He was the runner-up to Peyton Manning for the NFL MVP award, but defeated the New Orleans native for Super Bowl MVP in the Saints’ 31-17 win over the Colts in SBXLIV. That, of course, is the one he wanted most.
His 70.6 completion percentage this past season was an NFL record and he had the most touchdown passes with 34. He also threw for 4,388 yards and only 11 interceptions this season and his QB rating was a career-best 109.6, which is the 8th-best mark in NFL history.
Since 2006, Brees has taken the Saints to two NFC championship games, the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl and subsequently, the first-ever Super Bowl victory.
Brees has thrown for 18,298 yards in his four seasons with New Orleans, has 122 touchdowns (most ever for a Saint) and he has broken more Saints records than one can imagine.
There’s plenty more that can be written – and will be written – about Brees and what he means to the Saints.
But suffice it to say that he’s the most indispensable Saints player on the roster at this time…and probably ever.
