Paul Murphy / Eyewitness News

New Orleans police found the bullet-riddled body of 34-year-old Roy Wolfe lying on the ground in the backyard of a house in the 1700 block of South Lopez in the Broadmoor neighborhood.

They discovered the dead man around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.

According to investigators, two armed robbers abducted Wolfe 32 hours earlier in front of the home he was renovating down the street at 1704 South Lopez.

Police originally said the men forced Wolfe into his truck and drove to his house on Woodlawn Drive in Slidell, where the robbers took tv's and other property.

The victim's brother who did not want to be identified says Wolfe never made it to Slidell.

"They came around the alley here and hollered is name," he said. "He took off running, somewhere up in here. They shot him in the body and then he ran in the back, back there and then they shot him in the back of the head."

The brother wants to know why it took police more than a day to find his the body.

The NOPD's Shareese Harper says it's now unclear if Wolfe made the trip across the lake or if the men killed him on South Lopez.

"The investigation is in its infancy stages and detectives are aggressively working to determine the motive of this murder," said Officer Harper.

The NOPD arrested the murder suspects in a shootout with police Wednesday night in the 7000 block of Washington Avenue, just blocks from the original crime scene.

Police say they where driving the dead man's truck.

18-year-old Alonzo Gonzales and 23-year-old Brent Braneon are now charged with Wolfe's murder, five counts of attempted murder of a police officer and other crimes.

Wolfe's family says what makes this crime that much more tragic is the fact that he and his wife were buying up damaged properties, post-Katrina and fixing them up.

"He's a straight forward dude, you know," his brother said. "He's not with that foolishness. That's why it's not adding up. He just buys properties and fixes them up. That's it."

Police originally told us they were looking for another person in connection with the South Lopez shooting. This afternoon police ruled out a third suspect.
