Around midnight, police responded to a call of shots being fired, finding a 56-year-old man lying inside a home. He had been shot in the 4900 block of Canal Street, said NOPD spokewoman Officer Shereese Harper.
The man who has not been identified, pending notification of family members, was pronounced dead on the scene by EMTs, Harper said.
In a separate murder, an unidentified female was shot in the 3000 block of Laussat Place around 8:30 a.m., Harper said.
Fifth District officers responding to the shoot call found the woman lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to her body, said police. EMTs pronounced the woman, who also not identified pending family notification, dead at the scene.
Harper said that police are still gathering evidence in both cases and attempting to find a motive in both.
