NEW ORLEANS -- They say it's a marathon, not a sprint, but the finish line is upon us and thousands on Bourbon Street are celebrating into the final hours of Mardi Gras 2011.

After days of partying, some out-of-towners are giving the event glowing reviews.

"We're from Florida. It’s the first time I’ve been here, and it won’t be the last. It’s awesome,” said one woman. “Stay for a couple days. Don’t just do Fat Tuesday. Do all the days.”

But Fat Tuesday is the pinnacle for many -- a day when creativity is on full display.

"The best part about Mardi Gras is seeing everybody having a great time, and the morning of Mardi Gras you see everyone in costume, and you go down and you see the St. Ann parade, you see everybody that’s decked out and having a lovely time,” said one man.

Throughout the day, with a threat of rain looming, the party didn't skip a beat.

“When it rained a little bit this morning, we said that’s all right, we’re going anyway,” said one woman.

"Everybody's having a great time out here,” said one man. “Beautiful day. It’s great man.”

“This is a great Mardi Gras. We’re glad it’s late. Spring Break, it’s happening, and let’s have a good time,” said one man.
