NEW ORLEANS, La. – The biggest weekend of Carnival has finally arrived and the whole weekend leads up to the final event, Mardi Gras Day.

There will be plenty of parades on both sides of Lake Pontchartrain, all weekend long.

The Krewe of Hermes kicks things off on the Uptown route at 6:00 p.m. Friday, with the 75th anniversary theme, "The Diamond Jubilee."

Then, Krewe D'Etat follows at 6:30 p.m. and the 22-float parade takes a satirical look at current events, but the theme is kept secret until the parade rolls.

Finally, Morpheus gets started at 7:00 p.m. and the riders are "Cruising the Streets of New Orleans," this year’s theme, on 20 floats. Look out for dubloons, beads, and plush toys.

Slidell is getting into the Carnival action Friday night as well, as the Krewe of Selene rides at 6:30 p.m., and they will take a look at some favorite television shows as they salute “TV Classics” on 14 floats.

In Metairie, Krewe of Centurions will depict the theme "And the Beat Goes On," with 20 floats, and watch out for their signature sword throws.

Finally, Aphrodite hits the streets at 6:30 p.m., in Houma.
