NEW ORLEANS - The Krewe of Cleopatra, one of the west bank's signature Carnival parades, will move its annual trek Uptown, beginning in 2013, the krewe announced Thursday.
WWL-TV reported on the wish for the krewe to move Uptown in a report earlier this year.
The krewe received approval from the New Orleans city council to allow the parade to roll on the first Friday of parading on the traditional Uptown route.
The announcement brings to an end 39 years of parading in Algiers and Terrytown.
Captain Dolores Kepner says, “This is the perfect year for us to move our parade to the New Orleans uptown route. It opens up tremendous possibilities for the first weekend of Mardi Gras. We are honored to be a part of that”
