NEW ORLEANS -- The Krewe of Zulu gave its queen a big New Orleans-style welcome at the airport Sunday.
Queen Georgette Anita Lang-Mims is a New Orleans native and graduate of St. Mary's Academy High School and Dillard University.
The airport arrival tradition goes back to 1977. Kenner Mayor Mike Yenni presented the queen with the key to the city and joked that the airport expansion could make for a much grander entrance in the future.
“I think that Mayor Landrieu has made the airport big enough so that we can get a float. Everybody can second line around the float as you go through the airport,” Yenni said.
The king and queen partied at the Hyatt. You can see them again on Lundi Gras at Zulu's big festival at Woldenberg Park.
