NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans Police Department officers from the 1st District were lucky enough to be chosen to ride with Orpheus.

NOPD has been working around-the-clock since the first parade roles, so this is a nice break for them.

They spent the day loading up their float and getting ready for the big night ahead. For the officers, getting the chance to ride with Orpheus is extra special.

“It's my first time ever getting to ride on the float. I get to look down on everybody and see everyone in the crowd and make fun of them for having to be down there, for once,” said Detective Steven Williams, who has spent 23 years with the department.

It's going to be a fun, long night for these officers.

Orpheus is set to roll at 6 p.m., but these officers will be back out working their Mardi Gras patrols early Fat Tuesday. They say it's worth it.
