JEFFERSON PARISH, La. - As another sign of the changes to Carnival in Jefferson Parish in recent years, two krewes have announced they will not parade in 2014, parish officials said.

The Krewe of Thor, which would have celebrated its 40th anniversary next year, said it will not parade in 2014 and will instead focus on reorganizing, in hopes of returning for the 2015 Carnival season, according to a parish news release. No reason was given for Thor’s decision to cancel its 2014 parade. It was scheduled to roll Feb. 23.

A newer krewe, the Guardians of Atlantis, has notified the parish that it cannot meet minimum membership requirements and will also not parade in 2014. Atlantis formed in 2012. It plans to reapply for the 2015 parade season, parish leaders said. Its first parade was supposed to roll on Lundi Gras, which is March 3, 2014.

Metairie's Mardi Gras schedule has seen shuffling in recent years, with concerns raised over the quality of parades, the number of float riders and bands, and financial concerns impacting several krewes.
