NEW ORLEANS -- Add an Academy Award winner and an Emmy winner to the list of celebrity grand marshals riding with the Krewe of Orpheus on Lundi Gras.
Hillary Swank and Mariska Hargitay will join a slate of already-announced celebrities, as well as Orpheus founder Harry Connick Jr., krewe officials announced Monday.
Swank, a two-time Oscar winner, and Hargitay, who won an Emmy in 2006 and Golden Globe in 2005, have both appeared in movie roles with Connick.
Swank co-starred in P.S. I Love You with Connick. Hargitay is a star of TV’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the hit show that Connick recently joined as a cast member. She had been rumored to be considering leaving the show, but recently said she was staying on for at least another season.
Hargitay also has a tragic connection to the New Orleans area and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Her mother, actress Jayne Mansfield, was killed in a 1967 car accident on Highway 90 between Slidell and New Orleans. Mansfield had been appearing at a Gulf Coast nightclub. Hargitay, then three and a half years old, and her brothers were riding in the car but were not seriously hurt.
Connick’s leading ladies join rockers Cyndi Lauper and Bret Michaels, who were previously announced as Orpheus celebrity guests.
Also appearing will be actors Jonathan Silverman and Jennifer Finnigan, as well as Modern Family star Sarah Hyland, as well as her boyfriend Matt Prokop of High School Musical 3.
New Orleanian Harry Connick Jr. co-founded Orpheus in 1993 with captain Sonny Borey.
The parade rolls on Lundi Gras, which this year is Feb. 20.
