Argus celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, with a Fat Tuesday parade that has become a favorite for families along the Metairie parade route. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand is this year’s king, and Ashlee Marie Krantz is his queen. The krewe is named for the Greek mythological figure depicted as a man with a peacock’s tail, and 100 eyes. In recent years, the krewe has let commercialism creep further and further into its parade, disappointing some by selling sponsorships and spots on the floats, but its parade is nonetheless a family tradition for many along the parade route on Fat Tuesday. It is followed by what will seem like thousands of truck floats, showering crowds with throws from the Krewe of Jefferson and Elks Jeffersonians.
